Zumba Fitness Classes

Many people find that they enjoy taking Zumba classes so much that they would like to become a Zumba instructor. A person who is interested in becoming a Zumba instructor has to attend the Zumba Instructor Training course.

They will also continue to take courses offered by the Zumba Academy, or join the Zumba Instructor Network, to keep their Zumba instructor license current. The Zumba Academy offers programs to teach fitness and dance instructors how to begin teaching Zumba fitness classes.

They also work with people who are not currently fitness or dance instructors, but who would like to become a fitness instructor, dance instructor, and/or Zumba instructor. Aspiring Zumba instructors begin their journey by attending introductory classes – either Zumba Basic Steps Level 1, or Jump Start Gold.

Zumba Basic Steps Level 1 teaches the foundational steps and rhythms – merengue, salsa, cumbia, and reggaeton) that form the basis of Zumba Fitness Classes. This class will teach the future instructors how to put the choreography together, which movements work with what music, and how to create their own Zumba classes. After completion of this class, an individual will have earned a one year basic Zumba license. Jump Start Gold is the first training course for those who want to work with older adults. In this class, future instructors learn to address the fitness, psychological, and physiological needs of active older adults.

This training teaches the foundations that Zumba Basic Steps Level 1 teaches, in addition to teaching how to address older students' needs. At the end of this course, an instructor will receive a one year basic Zumba license and Zumba Gold license for as long as they are a member in good standing of the Zumba Instructor Network (ZIN). There are several other courses offered through the Zumba Instructor Network and Zumba Academy.

These other courses are taken after an instructor has earned their one year basic Zumba license. These classes allow the instructor to teach a wider variety of Zumba classes, and also to keep their licensing up to date. These other classes include Zumba Basic 2, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Aqua Zumba, and ZumbAtomic.

Zumba Basic 2 expands on what is taught in Zumba Basic 1. The instructors are also taught the steps for four more rhythms (belly dance, flamenco, tango, samba). Zumba Gold continues to teach ways to meet the needs of older adults and includes a Zumba chair workout. Zumba Toning adds the use of toning sticks for sculpting and toning muscles. Aqua Zumba is like a "pool party" – Zumba in a swimming pool! And ZumbAtomic is Zumba for kids.
